Unlike [adjustment of status](/en/servicios/ajuste-de-estatus), which is resolved inside the United States, consular processing usually involves two steps that must be prepared well in advance: **applying for a legal waiver** and then **leaving the country** to attend the consular appointment, before being able to re-enter legally.
